Elliot joined the firm's Winston-Salem office in 2009 after practicing for 10 years in the Complex Business Litigation department of a major international law firm. He has substantial experience in all aspects of civil litigation in state and federal courts. He is also experienced with private arbitrations.
Elliot focuses on business litigation, including contract disputes, business torts, commercial landlord-tenant matters, construction and real estate disputes, and insurance coverage issues. He also has experience with serious personal injury cases and is a certified Superior Court mediator.
Elliot has significant experience taking major cases through jury verdict and, if necessary, on appeal. His successes have included a $10 million verdict in federal court in Charlotte in an insurance-premium dispute. He has argued key pretrial motions in many cases. Defending a client in an "unfair trade practices" case in N.C. Business Court, he eliminated tens of millions of dollars in potential exposure through the exclusion of certain claimed damages. He has represented clients in numerous depositions and mediations.
Elliot provides concise, meaningful and cost-efficient counseling to business executives and other decision makers, so that they can make informed choices about the potential risks and benefits of litigation.
Elliot is a member of the North Carolina and Forsyth County Bar Associations (Chairman, Ethics & Grievance Committee; Member, Executive Committee). He is also a member of the Jaycees. He has lectured on a variety of topics, ranging from insurance law to construction law. Elliot is a co-author of "Liability Coverage for Defective Construction: the 'No Occurrence Myth'" (Chapter 4 of Aspen Publishers' 2007 Construction Law Update), and has been published in the National Law Journal. In addition, he received a 2008 Pro Bono Impact Award from Business Leader Media.
