Attorney and Army Brigadier General Chip Luckey Nominated for Major General Following Return from Iraq

On May 14, 2009, Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced that Brigadier General Charles ("Chip") D. Luckey, a Partner at Blanco Tackabery & Matamoros, P.A. and a member of the Firm's Litigation Practice Group, has been nominated by the President to be appointed to the rank of Major General in the United States Army. Luckey, who recently returned from a year-long tour in Iraq, has been selected by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to serve as his Assistant for Reserve Matters. He will begin this assignment in Washington, DC on June 1, 2009. It is a two year tour-of-duty.

General Luckey has served in the Army, on both Active Duty and in the Reserves, for over 32 years. He was appointed to the rank of Brigadier General in June of 2005, and served most recently in Baghdad as the Chief, Office of Security Cooperation, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom. His prior assignments as a General Officer include: Commanding General of the 78th Operations Group in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Deputy Commanding General, 81st Regional Readiness Command in Birmingham, Alabama.

Luckey joined the firm in 1991, after extended active duty tours with the United States Army as both an Infantry officer and a Judge Advocate. As a litigator, his practice has focused in the areas of domestic law, criminal defense, and commercial and environmental litigation. He is also certified to mediate cases in North Carolina Superior Courts and for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, and is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court. Chip received his B.A., with Distinction, from the University of Virginia; his Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College; and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut.
