Jim practices in the firm's Estate Planning & Administration Group. He advises clients in the areas of tax, estate planning, trust and estate administration, charitable planning, business planning and asset protection planning. Jim has experience assisting closely-held business owners with planning for the succession of their family business in a tax efficient manner. Along with the firm's Litigation Group, Jim also assists clients with litigation related to trust and estate administration, including actions to modify or terminate trusts.
Jim graduated from the University of Virginia, and holds a masters degree in public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He received his law degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law, and served as law clerk to the Honorable Ben F. Tennille, Special Superior Court Judge for Complex Business Cases.
Jim was admitted to practice in North Carolina in 1997, and is a member of the Forsyth County, North Carolina and American Bar Associations. He has served on a variety of civic and bar committees, including the Legislative Committee of the Estate Planning Section of the North Carolina State Bar, the Wake Forest Planned Giving Advisory Council and as Chair of the Planned Giving Committee of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. He is married and has two children.
